Family Dentistry - Preventive
Routine dental exams or check-ups are a big part of maintaining a healthy smile. At Elite dental, we offer comprehensive dental exams for the entire family as part of our preventative dentistry program. At each exam, we check for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, oral cancer, and other potential problems that require treatment.
X-rays of your mouth may also be taken during your dental exam and are very important in detecting early dental problems that can be resolved with minimum pain. We have digital X-rays which display the image immediately with the minimum amount of radiation necessary. In the practice we also have a Digital OPG that provides a panoramic scanned dental X-ray of the upper and lower jaw, which allows us to see the teeth roots, wisdom teeth and sinuses.
Professional Dental Cleaning involves removing plaque (soft, sticky, bacteria infested film) and tartar (calculus) deposits that have built up on the teeth over time. The purpose of the cleaning and polishing is basically to leave the surfaces of the teeth clean and smooth so that bacteria are unable to stick to them and you have a better chance of keeping the teeth and gums healthy.
Tooth Decay or cavities is usually treated by removing the decay and placing a filling to replace the missing tooth structure. Early detection of tooth decay can prevent fillings and at Elite Dental we promote preventive dental care by educating our patients on methods of preventing tooth decay. Fillings can be either be composite (white) or amalgam (black) both of which are comparable in cost and effectiveness.
A dental sealant is a plastic coating that is placed on the teeth to form a protective barrier that prevents cavities and decay. Dental sealants are most commonly recommended for children; however, some adults may benefit from this preventative measure as well.
Most dental accidents occur during sporting activities. Custom made mouthguards offer the best possible protection for both your teeth and jaw.
Inhalation Sedation Available (Penthrox)
If you are someone who fears going to the dentist, then inhalation sedation might be something that can help you transition from that fear that keeps you from getting regular dental care. It works by alleviating your dental phobia and helps you relax.
